📅 Thoughts of the Month
Slow, consistent progress this month.
I expanded on the ideas that felt strongest from January. The goal is to finish them and send them to labels in March. One track is already out with a couple of labels, so I’m waiting on responses there.
It hasn’t been a perfectly linear month. I was ill again and had to take more time off than I planned. A year ago that would’ve frustrated me. Now I’m trying to see it differently, rest isn’t lost time if it allows you to come back sharper.
Something else I’ve realised this month: I’m not someone built for a single track existence.
For years I’ve felt pulled in too many directions. Running. Lifting. Cooking. Gaming. Piano. Guitar. Music Production. It’s easy to frame that as a lack of focus.
But I’m starting to think it’s the opposite.
Since reading Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain and rewatching No Reservations, I’ve been cooking more. Not for productivity. Not for content. Just because I’m interested.
And strangely, when I allow myself to explore things freely without trying to “optimise” them my mind feels more open.
When I white knuckle exercise and treat music like a performance review, I tighten up.
When I explore because I’m curious, everything flows.
Even if I’m technically doing “less”, I end up finishing more.
Less pressure.
More clarity.
Better work.
I’m starting to see that creativity isn’t something you squeeze harder to get more of. It’s something you give space to.
March is about finishing.
But it’s also about protecting that openness.
🎵What I’ve been working on
Sent a track to a songwriter to push it beyond where I could take it alone
Expanded the ideas that felt strongest instead of chasing new ones
Committed to a system that prioritises consistency over bursts of motivation
I’m realising that momentum doesn’t come from dramatic breakthroughs.
It comes from showing up in a repeatable way.
Consistency compounds, but only if the system doesn’t burn you out.

Book:
Slow Productivity – Cal Newport
It challenges the idea that productivity means doing more. Instead: do fewer things, work on them deeply, and stretch the timeline.
For someone prone to burnout cycles, that shift in perspective is powerful.

💿 Playlist Picks
Here are a few tracks that have been on heavy rotation for me this month. You can find these and many more on my monthly playlist Line In with Lexton.
Andreios & Ruschke - UZZ
This month’s favourite.
Minimal but groove led. The bassline does most of the talking and nothing feels overworked. It’s a reminder that energy doesn’t need to be loud, it just needs to move.
Nic D - Upset
Nic genuinely doesn’t miss.
The wordplay is effortless but sharp. There’s personality in every bar. It’s a masterclass in sounding relaxed while clearly being technically very good.
Leven Kali - Breathe!
I’ve mentioned Leven Kali a few times now, and I will probably continue to do so. The groove just sits in the pocket and the textures feel warm and organic. There’s a looseness to it that makes it feel alive.
