📅 Thoughts of the Month

Truthfully this month has been far from ideal. I started October with an illness that lasted 10 days, then I travelled down to Devon to see family, then took a few days off for my birthday and suddenly, it’s November.

As a result, I didn’t get as much time to produce, but I did manage to move the needle on a few tracks. What I realised this month is that consistency isn’t always about doing something every single day. That kind of pace can burn you out. It’s about doing enough on most days to keep things moving forward.

And funnily enough, time away has given me the thing I didn’t know I needed, fresh ears. Coming back to my projects helped me instantly hear which songs I still care about, which need work, and which to let go. That clarity alone made the break worth it.

🎵What I’ve been working on

This month I:

  • Spent time recovering from illness

  • Sent stems for a track to be mixed by a collaborator

  • Spent time with family

  • Took a few days off for my birthday

Not the most productive month, but definitely one of growth. I took the rest I needed instead of forcing productivity. Historically, I’d have kept pushing training, producing, and burning out. This time, I didn’t.

💾 New Tools & Creative Fuel

Plugins:
Kilohearts Essentials (FREE!) - really great suite of plugins with some creative effects. Definitely give it a try!

Book:
– Hail Mary – Andy Weir
Hard sci-fi but full of heart. I loved how it balances science, story, and solitude, strangely reflective of the creative process itself. A reminder that even isolation can lead to something brilliant.

💿 Playlist Picks

Here are a few tracks that have been on heavy rotation for me this month. You can find these and many more on my monthly playlist Line In with Lexton.

  • nimino & Manta - Better

Probably my favourite pick this month. It’s one of those songs that hits that perfect balance between melancholy and motion.

  • Olivia Dean - So Easy (To Fall In Love)

Not my usual listen, but I found this through my girlfriend playing Olivia Dean.

  • Swimming Paul & Beaux Neptune - Hard2Sleep

Instant vibes. The mix of driving dance rhythms with rap just works. It’s been on repeat this month.
